According to sinarharian reports, after four days of investigation, the Malaysian Penang District 1 Maritime Police successfully busted a cigarette smuggling syndicate and seized cigarettes worth 5.12 million ringgit (approximately RMB 8 million).
Penang District 1 Marine Police Commander Assistant Commissioner Samso Kassim said that based on intelligence results, the police raided a terrace house in Chung Lai Hock Road, Tanjong Road at 6 pm and found 24,500 cardboard boxes containing 490 Thousands of white cigarettes.
The cigarettes were found at a house last Tuesday. This is the largest tobacco smuggling case in the country. The individuals involved smuggled tobacco from neighboring countries to Malaysia by ship, and then hid it in designated houses to wait for distribution in the domestic market.
