British American Tobacco Nigeria is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Ibadan factory. The Ibadan plant, established in 2003, has been the cornerstone of BAT Nigeria's operations in West and Central Africa, with the ability to export to 11 countries in the West and Central Africa region and, most recently, the United States.
Yarub Al-Bahrani, Managing Director, BAT Nigeria and West and Central Africa, said: “Twenty years ago we began our journey to establish a world-class manufacturing facility in Nigeria and today we are proud to celebrate the Ibadan facility as part of our pursuit of excellence in Nigeria. A shining example of excellence and sustainability.”
He added: "This factory has played a key role in our success, making a significant contribution to the Nigerian economy, creating jobs across the value chain and promoting environmental stewardship."
The Ibadan facility has implemented a comprehensive environmental management system and adopted stringent measures to reduce its carbon footprint. According to BAT, these efforts have significantly reduced energy consumption, water use and waste generation.
On February 6, Ibadan will launch a 1.4MWP grid-connected solar panel system. Its advocacy for water stewardship has been recognized by various certifications, including the prestigious Water Stewardship Alliance Core Certification.
Speaking on the plant’s milestone, BAT’s Head of External Affairs for West and Central Africa, Odiri Erewa-Meggison claimed that BAT Nigeria was prioritizing safety, sustainability and responsible business practices while remaining firmly committed to promoting a “Better Tomorrow” (the company’s corporate vision).
"The Ibadan facility is more than just a manufacturing facility; it is an integral part of Nigerian society and we are always striving to make a positive impact on the lives of those around us."
Odiri Erewa-Magison said the anniversary celebrations would serve as a tribute to the factory's achievements and success. She added: “This is an opportunity to thank all our employees, partners and stakeholders for their dedication and hard work who have played a vital role in shaping our growth and journey. We look forward to celebrating the factory’s future Many milestones and positive contributions.”
