WHO warns: Global tobacco deaths exceed 8 million annually and calls for strengthening control and youth education

According to a report by alephnews on January 20, the latest data released by the World Health Organization (WHO) shows that the global consumption of tobacco products is on a downward trend, and young people are still the main consumers of tobacco products.

According to research on smoking prevalence trends from 2000 to 2030, although tobacco consumption has decreased in 150 countries around the world, the smoking problem remains serious, causing more than 8 million deaths every year.

WHO emphasizes that countries should further strengthen tobacco control, especially smoking prevention education for teenagers. In the face of this global challenge, strengthening tobacco regulation and education is critical to reducing health risks and deaths caused by smoking.

The report pointed out that in order to effectively deal with this problem, WHO calls on countries to take more powerful measures, including but not limited to strengthening regulations, increasing tobacco taxes, banning advertising, and promoting more comprehensive youth smoking prevention education programs.
