US snuff company launches recall plan due to metal foreign matter found in some batches of products

According to Tobaccoreporter, American Snuff Co. (ASC) is voluntarily recalling certain batches of Kodiak Premium Wintergreen Longcut Tobacco (Kodiak Premium) produced at the company's factory in Clarksville, Tennessee and sold in 18 states. Holly long cut tobacco).

ASC has notified the U.S. Food and Drug Administration of this voluntary recall and is working with the agency on the matter.

ASC initiated the recall after discovering that certain batches of the product may contain metallic foreign objects that may or may not be visible to consumers, according to an announcement on the company's website. The reason for the recall is that a problem with the production equipment was discovered during routine inspections, resulting in metal-to-metal wear; this wear may have caused metal shavings to come into contact with tobacco during the production process. To date, no products containing these foreign materials have been identified and no consumer complaints or reports of consumer injury have been received.

No other ASC products are affected, including other styles of Kodiak, Grizzly, Hawken and Cougar smokeless tobacco products, as well as all loose leaf, twist, dry snuff and plug products.

ASC has directed wholesalers and retailers to separate the recalled Kodiak Premium Wintergreen Longcut tobacco from their stocks.
