Today, the Japanese government is considering raising taxes on heated cigarette products to the same level as cigarettes.
Sales of Japanese heated cigarette products have been increasing in recent years, but because they use fewer tobacco leaves than cigarettes, taxes are lower. The Japanese government hopes to ensure tax revenue of more than 1 trillion yen (1 yen is approximately 0.05 yuan) in fiscal year 2027.
