According to a report by GVA on November 25, the Belgian federal government decided to impose a consumption tax on e-cigarette oil used in e-cigarettes at a rate of 15 euro cents per milliliter.
Under the new tax policy, the price of a 50 ml bottle of e-cigarette oil will rise from 15 euros to 22.5 euros. The average e-cigarette user will spend an additional 15 euros per month and 180 euros for the whole year. Industry insiders are worried that e-cigarette related price increases may affect consumer purchasing behavior, as consumers may choose to purchase e-cigarettes and e-liquids across borders.
From 2025 there will also be a display ban and cigarettes and e-cigarettes may no longer be visible in shops. Therefore, shop owners must store them in a separate room or cupboard.
