The head of Thailand’s excise tax department recently stated that they are considering implementing a single tax rate on cigarettes.
Thailand currently levies a 25% tax on cigarettes with a retail price of no more than 72 baht per pack (1 baht is approximately RMB 0.19), and a 42% tax on cigarettes with a retail price higher than 72 baht per pack. In addition, there is an additional tax of 1.25 baht per cigarette. If it is determined to implement a single tax rate on cigarettes, the tax rate will be between 25% and 42%.
