The Ghanaian government recently developed a five-year national tobacco control measure with the goal of reducing tobacco consumption in the country.
Baffour Awuah, head of the Technical Coordination Bureau of the Ministry of Health of Ghana, said the measure aims to ensure effective coordination among agencies involved in tobacco control, with clear goals and timetables. Olivia Boateng, the head of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, said Ghana has made progress in tobacco control policies, but must pay attention to the increase in illegal tobacco trade.
